The section will assist you in casting the right kind of person for each role. Please remember that apart from a few exceptions you do not need to be concerned that people have had previous acting experience. Using ordinary people just being themselves is quite sufficient. The 'key' is to get people involved - the experience will enrich their lives. The most important quality is that your actors love the Lord and have a desire to evangelize the unsaved.
HOW TO CHOOSE SCENESWe leave to you freedom to choose scenes yourself by how do you think there are more problems in your area. For example, if in your area are more suicide problems, then problems with youth gangs, then you can choose whether teen suicide or grownup suicide scene instead of teenagers scene. But you can’t leave out any numbers and put instead of them other alternates from other scenes. This is to keep balance between areas of life in the drama and also that the message would cover both sexes equally. Also you can’t change or leave out crucifiction scene.
JESUS - Non-speaking This is a non-speaking role but it does require some acting ability . You need someone 'not short' and lean in body. (a flabby overweight Jesus would not look good). During crucifiction he will also need to be able to show great pain and also great compassion by facial expression. This person gets thrown about so he needs to be a bit athletic. Must be able to attend allrehearsals. The ability to grow a beard [not necessarily neat and tidy] would also add authenticity to this role. THE DEVIL This person must be able to be very threatening both in physical movement and with their voice. This part must be played by a MAN. This is an important role as he must be evil....not funny. This Person MUST be able to attend all rehearsals. Also is important that the person that plays this role, is not young believer, or not having hard times in his life at present moment because of spiritual pressure on this role. DEMONS - 2 to 4 - Non-speaking Horrible little 'monkey like' creatures. They wear masks so they can be male or female. They must be able to attend all rehearsals. HEAD ANGEL - Non-speaking It is best if she is an attractive girl (not too young). Although it is a non-speaking role she must be able to attend all the rehearsals as she has to be familiar with each scene. ANGELS - 6 to 14[depending on the size of your stage/platform] - Non-speaking The angel gowns that we have do not flatter girls who are very overweight so bear this in mind when selecting your angels. Also their hight must be at least 1.45 meters, because of our angel gowns. It is a non-speaking role requiring very little rehearsal. Scene #1A - THE OLD LADY - 1 Lady A lady of any age will do. She must be able to dance around a little when she gets to Heaven. This is an easy part as all her dialogue is with herself. Scene #2A - DRUGGIES - 2 girls Two girls out to party. They need to be able to come across like 'worldly girls' (not Sunday School types). Remember that we are trying to reach the unsaved with this drama so we want to be as realistic as possible. These girls are arrogant and laugh at Christianity . Scene #2A - DRUG PUSHER- 1 man A smooth talker who thinks that he is 'God's gift to women.'
Scene #3A - BUSINESSMEN - 2 men One of the men should be a smart business type - the other an unassuming 'Mr. Average'. Alternate Scene #3B - HUSBAND & WIFEIt is best if you can find an actual husband and wife for this scene. The husband needs to be aggressive, while the wife tries to keep the peace. Scene #4A - CHRISTIAN F AMILY - Mother & Father with 2 or 3 children It is best if you can find an actual family for this scene. It may be necessary for one or two of the children to come from another family which would be OK. The youngest child only has to do is run out of Heaven at the end. Scene #5A -FATHER & SONIt is great if you can find an actual father and son for this scene. If not then bear in mind that the son would be best around 12- 15 years old.. If it is impossible to fill these parts then there is an alternative version involving 2 brothers or 2 sisters or a brother and a sister. For the sake of balance of the whole drama please try for the Father and Son first before considering the alternatives. Alternate Scene 5 – TWO BROTHERS/TWO SISTERS or BROTHER & SISTER If you can find actual brothers/sisters, or others who would fit the parts. The idea is that one is older and other is younger.
Scene #6A - SECRETARIES- 2 girls Two 'typical' office/shop/factory girls. One a decent Christian girl and the other a somewhat 'worldly' person who enjoys the night life, etc. Alternate Scene #6B – TWO FRIENDS – Late teens or young men and woman They Should be in their dating years. Scene #7A- TEENAGERS - 3 [preferably boys to give balance to the cast] This scene works best with 3 arrogant boys, but you can, if necessary, mix up the sexes. Heavily affected by alcohol. Alternate Scene #7B– TEENAGER’S SHOOTING SCENE – 2 girls and 4 boys One of girls must be decent Christian type, Church going girl. Other must know how to act worldly teenager. Boys must be ordinary teenagers except the one who is Christian Alternate Scene #7C and D - ADULT SUICIDE or TEEN SUICIDE If you use either of these scenes you will need strong characters who can act depression and despair. Scene #8A - CONSTRUCTION WORKERS - 2 men This is the longest scene and is very important because it injects much needed humour into the drama. You need your best actors in this role - certainly those who are able to memorise lines. A feel for comedy is also a great help in this scene so your men do need to be outgoing types. Scene #9A- MOTHER & DAUGHTERAgain, an actual mother and daughter works best. If not any combination will do. It is most effective if the daughter is around 9- 14 years of age, but whatever age she is she must be able to cry convincingly when her mother is dragged into Hell. IN ADDITION YOU WILL NEED THE FOLLOWINGSPOTLIGHT OPERATOR[Mature - Male or female] These need to be responsible people. They are only needed for the all day Saturday rehearsal, the Sunday afternoon rehearsal, and of course all the performances. No previous experience is necessary as we will train. In non English speaking countries this person must be able to understand and speak English. TWO PROPS RUNNERS – 2 These need to be responsible young [if not young then healthy] people who are 'fleet of foot' to very quickly remove props and microphones from the stage between scenes. We will train them, but they must be available for the all day Saturday rehearsal, the Sunday afternoon rehearsal and of course each performance. ELECTRICANWe will need to tap into your electrical power supply using our own 3 phase distribution. This is a very straightforward task but a qualified electrician will be needed to ensure the safety of this. He will be needed for about I hour on Friday night (or when we set up the stage). PLEASE REMEMBER THAT THE IDEA IS TO GET AS MANY OF YOUR OWN PEOPLE INVOLVED AS POSSIBLE
